Margie Keenan BSW, M. Ed.

I have enjoyed being an educator for over 20 years. I began my teaching career in 1997 at the Brooklyn Montessori School and The Little Room. For the past 17 years now, I've been a teacher at the well-regarded Park Children's Day School, formerly known as Park Avenue Christian Church Day School. I received my B.A. in Social Work from NYU and hold a Masters degree in Early Childhood Education from Hunter College.

I'm the co-creator and director of a successful summer program called Summer Art Bunch NYC and recently co-founded a unique enrichment program for pre-schoolers called Pop-Up Learning NYC. I've been tutoring young children for the past 10 years. I'm a native New Yorker and reside and work on the Upper East Side.

I offer 45 minute private sessions for preschoolers to help with kindergarten readiness skills and the ongoing school process. I know that many of you will start the process this fall and in the springtime and want to let you know that I offer flexible scheduling to accommodate morning, afternoon and weekend sessions. I tailor every session to meet your child's exact needs.

My one-to-one sessions cover:

  • Standardized Tests (OLSTAT, Standford Binet, AABL, ERB, SRT)
  • Math
  • Language
  • Memory
  • Spatial reasoning
  • Early literacy skills
  • Handwriting (Handwriting Without Tears)

Most importantly, I help with your child's attention span, problem solving skills and flexibility. I feel it is beneficial for your preschooler to have these one-to-one experiences in order to feel comfortable when they begin their school visits in the Fall and the Spring.

For children in kindergarten through 3rd grade, I offer instruction in the following areas:

  • homework help
  • reading skills and motivation
  • writing skills
  • math
  • time management planning
  • organization skills and support

If you are interested feel free to reach out to me.

Each and every child is individual and unique in their development. I have been teaching young children for over 20 years with this philosophy as a base. I work with children on a one-to-one basis using developmentally appropriate approaches to pre-reading skills, handwriting, attention span, problem solving, flexibility, interview separation process and more. I tailor an individual plan for each child, however my goal is always the same; to help your child gain confidence and prepare them with the skills that they will need to move forward.

I have frequent communication with parents throughout the tutoring process as I believe that our communication is an integral part of your child's success. I offer suggestions on skills that you can work on at home and provide feedback on their progress with me during our sessions.

I specialize in the following areas:

  • Language and Communication
  • Memory
  • Spacial Reasoning
  • Reading Skills
  • Math Skills
  • Separation Process
  • Interview Preparation
  • English as a second language
  • Handwriting (Handwriting Without Tears)
